King’s College London (KCL) is ranked as one of the top 40 universities in the world in the global QS rankings. It has an outstanding reputation for world-class teaching and cutting-edge research. The Cicely Saunders Institute (CSI) was the world’s first purpose-built Institute for palliative care and is at the international forefront of the field. In the 2021 Research Excellence Framework, CSI research alongside faculty and allied health colleagues from across KCL, was ranked first in the UK. The CSI has been a WHO Collaborating Centre for Palliative Care and Rehabilitation since 2008.
The KCL team lead the economic evaluation work package in EU PAL-COPD. We work with the clinical sites to collect data on participants’ health service use, receipt of unpaid care, and quality-of-life. We analyse these data to quantify if the intervention changes health care costs or patterns of service use, and to understand if the intervention represents a good use of scarce resources.
